President Bola Tinubu met with the national leadership of the City Boy Movement at the State House in Abuja on Monday, describing the upcoming 2027 general elections as a contest for the future of Nigerian youths rather than a personal campaign. According to Punch, the President told the delegation that the country’s steady economic growth would provide a foundation for renewed hope, assuring them that the administration’s trajectory would not be reversed. Premium Times reported that the gathering, organised jointly with the Relax, Tinubu Is Fixing Nigeria Movement, convened young backers and mobilisation bodies supporting his bid for a second term.
During the address, Tinubu outlined the financial hurdles his government inherited, citing outstanding debts to aviation firms and shrinking foreign exchange buffers. He noted that eliminating the fuel subsidy on his first day was a necessary step to prevent fiscal collapse, a decision he argued could not be easily undone. The President also highlighted the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, stating that over a million students had benefited from the scheme, and introduced the Credit Corps initiative to assist young workers in purchasing assets like laptops and vehicles without relying exclusively on savings. He further praised his son, Seyi Tinubu, for organising young Nigerians around the administration’s agenda without seeking a specific political title.
The City Boy Movement, a youth-driven political advocacy organisation, has been actively building a nationwide network to support Tinubu’s re-election. Premium Times noted that the President commended the group for establishing structures across states and local government areas, encouraging organisers to create a call centre to engage young Nigerians daily. He also praised the All Progressives Congress youth wing for its door-to-door campaigns and assured supporters that they would remain central to the country’s future.
In a parallel development, Punch reported that the movement has finalised plans to mobilise voters across all 33 local government areas of Oyo State. Femi Onireti, the state director, disclosed that the group aims to re-elect Tinubu and other All Progressives Congress candidates in the 2027 polls. Moses Adeyemo, the state chairman of the All Progressives Congress, urged the movement to leverage the numerical strength of the youth demographic to strengthen the party’s chances in the state, emphasising the need for collective effort to win the upcoming elections.
