UEFA has designated the Estadio Metropolitano as the venue for the 2027 UEFA Champions League final. According to Punch, the governing body confirmed the selection in September, setting the match date for Saturday, June 5, 2027. This marks the second time the Madrid stadium hosts the competition’s showpiece, after the 2019 final where Liverpool beat Tottenham Hotspur 2-0. The venue has served as Atletico Madrid’s home ground since 2017, replacing the Vicente Calderón, and carries the name of the club’s previous home until 1966.
The announcement also fixed the locations for the next two seasons. Punch reported that the Allianz Arena, home to Bayern Munich, will stage the 2028 final. UEFA noted that this stadium previously hosted the final in 2012 and 2025, and also staged six matches during Euro 2024. Following Madrid and Munich, Barcelona’s Camp Nou is set to host the 2029 final. This will be the third time the Camp Nou stages the European Cup or Champions League showpiece, having previously hosted the finals in 1989 and 1999.
The Estadio Metropolitano, located in the north-east of Madrid, holds approximately 70,000 spectators. According to UEFA, the venue was built with environmental considerations, featuring LED lighting and solar panels to reduce energy consumption, and it was the first 100% LED stadium in the world. The stadium opened to the public in September 2017 and has also hosted rugby union matches, boxing events, and music concerts. It is currently among the venues shortlisted to host matches at the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
Beyond the trophy, the 2027 champions will earn a spot in the 2027 UEFA Super Cup, facing the Europa League winners. The victors also gain direct entry into the 2027/28 Champions League league phase if domestic qualification fails. Meanwhile, Punch noted that the 2026/27 Champions League league phase is currently underway, with match week three fixtures scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday.
