Coronation Asset Management is directing capital toward critical infrastructure in Nigeria, integrating environmental and governance factors into its investment strategy. According to Nairametrics, this approach prioritizes assets that generate resilient value over time, focusing on sectors essential to the country's long-term development. The firm views this discipline as a way to strengthen risk assessment and support durable economic productivity, moving beyond simple values-led investing to target structural growth opportunities.
A key component of this strategy involves funding an embedded power project. Nairametrics reported that the facility is a 30-megawatt natural gas plant, with roughly 13 megawatts already committed by commercial clients in a major business district. As subscriptions reach full capacity, the plant aims to reduce dependence on diesel generators. The report projects the project will create about 400 direct jobs and displace more than 3,000 diesel units, lowering costs and improving energy reliability for local enterprises.
The fund is also expanding its logistics footprint to improve economic connectivity. Nairametrics noted the acquisition of 300 Sinotruk trucks, which move roughly 550,000 tonnes of goods each month across Nigeria’s six regions. This network supports agriculture and construction by ensuring efficient product movement. The operation supports approximately 7,700 jobs, with women holding 14% of management positions, a figure the report cites as a sign of change in a male-dominated sector.
These investments are supported by evolving regulatory frameworks. Nairametrics explained that the National Pension Commission now allows administrators to allocate up to 25% of eligible fund assets to infrastructure vehicles. This policy aligns long-term savings with the financing needs of durable assets. Additionally, the Nigerian Sustainable Finance Roadmap provides a national structure to mobilize institutional capital toward sustainable sectors. In recognition of these efforts, the fund received the award for Best Investment Manager for Private Credit at the 2026 Euromoney Private Banking Awards, according to the report.
