The Chartered Institute of Marketing, Ghana (CIMG), convened its 37th Annual National Marketing Performance Awards in Accra, where leaders urged businesses to prioritize quality and integrity in an era dominated by artificial intelligence. According to MyJoyOnline, the ceremony was held at the Labadi Beach Hotel under the theme “Brand Ghana Reimagined: Trust, Innovation and Growth in the AI Economy.” The event recognized brands, organizations, and professionals whose marketing contributions supported the country’s economic growth, with the central argument being that technological advancement must be paired with reliable service delivery to maintain consumer loyalty.
Professor Stephen Adei, Patron of the CIMG, stated that the success of Ghanaian businesses would depend on their ability to create trustworthy products that meet consumer needs. He described trust as a critical economic asset, noting that customers remain loyal to brands that keep their promises and that international buyers maintain relationships with consistent suppliers. Adei argued that while technology changes how brands reach consumers, it does not alter the fundamental basis of business relationships. He emphasized that authenticity and professional integrity must define Ghanaian enterprise, particularly in a marketplace where content is generated at unprecedented speed.
Michael Abbiw, National President of the CIMG, reinforced this perspective by warning that prioritizing growth without a foundation of trust could undermine long-term value. He suggested that credibility is built through consistent promise-keeping rather than technological speed alone. Abbiw encouraged marketers to adopt AI tools based on their ability to solve problems and serve customers, rather than following fashion. He also called on corporate boards to recognize marketing as a strategic management function, giving it a voice in high-level decision-making to better understand market dynamics and brand reputation.
The awards ceremony recognized outstanding performance across 55 categories, including the induction of new companies into the CIMG Hall of Fame. Abena Amoah, head of the Ghana Stock Exchange, took the top female leadership honor, while Salem Kalmoni, who leads Japan Motors, received the corresponding male leadership distinction. The Multimedia Group secured multiple accolades, including a prize for its #NoToGalamsey digital initiative. The CIMG, described as Ghana’s sole chartered authority for marketing practice, continues to mandate standards and regulate the profession in the country.
