Emmanuel Bumbi Naguyo, the Deputy Resident State Attorney in Nebbi, Uganda, was discovered lifeless at his home in Riverview Cell, Central Ward, on Monday morning. According to Nile Post, the 40-year-old prosecutor missed his scheduled court appearance, leading colleagues to check on him. When phone calls went unanswered, an office attendant visited his rented property near Tokyo House and found the entrance locked.
Police broke the door down and located Naguyo lying face down on the floor. The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) confirmed the discovery occurred around 10:00 am. Nebbi District Police Commander SP James Mwesigye characterized the event as a sudden passing, noting that investigators were still determining the specific cause. He suggested possibilities like a cardiac event or pre-existing illness, pending further examination.
Nile Post reported that the body was moved to the Nebbi General Hospital mortuary for a postmortem. West Nile Regional Police spokesperson SSP Josephine Angucia confirmed that detectives are documenting the scene under specific case files. They recovered plates from the interior, which were sent to the Government Analytical Laboratory in Kampala for testing. Angucia noted that no arrests had been made by Monday evening, and the exact cause remained undetermined.
The ODPP expressed shock at the loss, describing the news as a significant blow to the legal team. In a written release, ODPP Public Relations Officer Jacquelyn Okui extended condolences to the family and staff. Colleagues at the Directorate of Public Prosecutions office remembered Naguyo as a soft-spoken and dedicated lawyer who was always ready to handle court cases.
Naguyo had worked as a State Attorney for three years. He completed advanced legal training at the Law Development Centre in Kampala during 2016 and 2017 and belonged to the Uganda Law Society. Funeral plans are expected to be announced once the postmortem report and lab analysis provide a definitive cause of death.
