The aggregate market capitalization of nine of India’s ten most valuable companies rose by ₹3.65 lakh crore during the previous week, according to The Hindu BusinessLine. This increase occurred against a backdrop of strong performance in equity benchmarks. The BSE Sensex index climbed by over 2,200 points, representing a 3.11 percent gain, while the NSE Nifty index added more than 625 points, a 2.77 percent rise. These figures marked the most robust weekly results for these indices in roughly half a year, as noted by the publication.
Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) accounted for the largest portion of this wealth creation, with its valuation expanding by approximately ₹1.08 lakh crore to reach nearly ₹8.91 lakh crore. Bharti Airtel and Infosys also saw significant increases, adding over ₹61,000 crore and ₹55,000 crore to their respective valuations. Reliance Industries, which retains the position of India’s most valuable domestic entity, saw its worth grow by roughly ₹53,000 crore. Other financial and industrial majors, including HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, and State Bank of India, also posted positive gains, though smaller in magnitude compared to the technology and telecom leaders.
In contrast, Larsen & Toubro stood out as the sole laggard among the top ten, experiencing a contraction in its market value of approximately ₹9,200 crore. The Hindu BusinessLine attributed the broader rally to a sharp recovery in information technology shares, fueled by positive earnings reports from the September quarter. Ponmudi R, CEO of Enrich Money, explained that renewed investor interest in heavyweight stocks supported this trend. He described the market movement as an extension of a recovery phase, highlighting the specific strength of the IT sector in driving the overall index performance during that period.
The ranking of these companies by market value remained largely consistent with previous periods, with Reliance Industries at the top, followed by Bharti Airtel and HDFC Bank. The shift in valuations underscores the volatility and sector-specific nature of recent market movements. While most major players benefited from the bullish sentiment, the divergence in Larsen & Toubro’s performance indicates that not all large-cap stocks moved in unison. The Hindu BusinessLine detailed these specific financial shifts, providing a snapshot of the current hierarchy of corporate value in the Indian economy.
