President John Dramani Mahama appealed to Kampakuya-Naa Yakubu II, the Regent of Dagbon, to preserve the stability of the traditional area in northern Ghana. According to MyJoyOnline, the President made this request during a Monday courtesy visit at the Jubilee House, emphasizing that the peace of the region must be protected through careful decision-making and mutual respect among communities.

The delegation visited the Presidency to formally introduce the new Regent and to express gratitude for the support provided to the late Yaa Naa Abukari II. MyJoyOnline reported that the President facilitated the late ruler's medical treatment in South Africa and oversaw the return of his remains for internment in Yendi. The President also noted his presence at the late ruler's seven-day Islamic funeral and the installation ceremony for his successor.

In response, the Regent pledged to sustain the reconciliation process initiated by his father. Speaking through a representative, he stated that his governance would be guided by the kingdom's constitution, which was drafted by representatives from various traditional areas and approved by the Dagbon Traditional Council. He assured the President that he would maintain the foundations of peace while building new bridges of unity where opportunities arise.

The Regent also outlined the timeline for the late Yaa Naa's funeral, noting that the constitution stipulates an 18-month tenure for the Regent following the ruler's passing. A funeral committee will work with the Traditional Council and kingmakers to determine the appropriate date for the ceremony. MyJoyOnline noted that the President also highlighted development projects, including funding for water systems in Tamale, Damongo, and Yendi, which were approved by the European Union.

Key figures present at the meeting included Dr. Julius Debrah, the Chief of Staff at the Presidency, and Mahama Ayariga, the Minister of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs. The National Democratic Congress chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, and Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu also attended the event at the presidential residence.
