Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi has pledged to raise the stipends for National Youth Service Corps members posted to the state, aiming to improve their welfare and ease economic pressures. According to Punch, the governor made this commitment on Monday during a visit to the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Fanisau, Dutse, which coincided with the graduation of the 2026 Batch C Stream cohort. He stated that the proposed hike would recognize the contributions of the corps members to state development while cushioning the effects of current economic challenges.

In addition to the stipend review, Punch reported that Namadi provided a one-off N10,000 travel grant for each recruit to facilitate their journey to primary assignment locations. The governor also indicated that the state government would evaluate building a larger assembly hall at the camp to host bigger gatherings and would acquire a bigger power unit to solve electricity shortages. These interventions are intended to improve the living conditions of both corps members and camp officials.

Premium Times reported that the governor also highlighted recent infrastructure upgrades at the facility, including refurbishments to the main multipurpose hall and dormitories. The state supplied bedding, blankets, and cooking equipment, along with a 100 KVA generator and solar lights. Premium Times noted that a security fence with barbed wire was erected, particularly near the railway line, in response to the ongoing federal rail project. Contracts were recently signed for updating staff housing, classrooms, and sanitation facilities.

To ensure smooth integration, Namadi ordered all state ministries and local councils to accept posted recruits without rejection. According to Premium Times, he asked traditional rulers and community leaders to mentor and protect the young workers. The NYSC Jigawa State Coordinator, Muhammad Baba, praised the governor for the support and encouraged the recruits to honor local customs while contributing to state growth.
