Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Manama on Sunday. According to Asharq Al-Awsat, the meeting took place on the sidelines of the GCC-Russia ministerial meeting. The two officials reviewed bilateral relations and examined regional developments, with a specific focus on the escalation in Yemen. They also addressed ongoing threats to navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and the Bab al-Mandeb Strait, aiming to maintain broader regional security and stability.

The gathering marked a new round of the Gulf-Russian Strategic Dialogue. Asharq Al-Awsat reported that the summit was designed to expand cooperation and facilitate the exchange of views on issues of common interest. The agenda included strengthening political coordination and joint action among Gulf states. This diplomatic activity occurred against a backdrop of heightened regional security concerns, particularly regarding maritime trade routes and the Houthi conflict in Yemen.

Simultaneously, India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar was engaged in diplomatic activities in the Gulf. The Hindu reported that Jaishankar met with Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, the ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, during a three-day visit. This meeting was part of a broader review of the India-UAE Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. It followed a day after Jaishankar had met with his UAE counterpart, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, indicating a sustained focus on bilateral ties between New Delhi and Abu Dhabi.

While the Manama meetings focused on immediate security challenges, the India-UAE discussions emphasized long-term strategic alignment. The convergence of these diplomatic efforts highlights the interconnected nature of Gulf security and international trade. As Asharq Al-Awsat noted, the GCC-Russia dialogue serves as a platform for addressing shared interests. Meanwhile, The Hindu’s reporting on Jaishankar’s visit underscores India’s continued engagement with key Gulf partners to solidify its strategic position in the region.
