Himadri Speciality Chemical, headquartered in Kolkata, is allocating ₹500 crore to modernise its Birla Tyres division, according to The Hindu BusinessLine. The firm intends to absorb the tyre operations currently managed by Dalmia Bharat Refractories, its partner in the 2023 insolvency resolution. This structural move simplifies ownership and decision-making for the revived brand, which restarted production in the first quarter of fiscal year 2026. The Hindu BusinessLine noted that the transaction itself will not add manufacturing capacity.

The expansion programme focuses on upgrading the Balasore plant in Odisha to produce commercial-vehicle and agricultural tyres. Himadri is also developing passenger-car radial tyres suited to electric vehicles and SUVs, aiming for ₹3,000 crore in annual tyre revenue within four to five years. Under a board-approved scheme, Dalmia’s tyre unit, which generated ₹149.31 crore in fiscal year 2026, will move to Himadri. Dalmia shareholders will get one Himadri share for each 260 shares they hold, pending regulatory clearance.

In the United States, Sicona Battery Technologies, an Australian associate of Himadri, bought silicon-anode specialist Advano for an undisclosed price. The deal provides Sicona with intellectual property, a pilot plant, and cell-testing capabilities. The company will spend $10.3 million over five years at its New Orleans East site. It also obtained AUD 45 million in Australian government grants to commercialise silicon-carbon anode technology. Anurag Choudhary, Himadri’s chairman and managing director, called the Birla consolidation a key step in building an integrated tyre value chain.

Himadri’s fiscal year 2026 consolidated revenue reached ₹4,661 crore, with net profit rising to ₹755 crore. In the first half of fiscal year 2027, revenue climbed 42.7 per cent to ₹3,123 crore. The company has earmarked ₹1,613 crore for advanced materials, including ₹1,125 crore for lithium iron phosphate cathode materials. Management expects net profit to exceed ₹1,100 crore by fiscal year 2028, though consolidated borrowings grew to ₹1,156 crore in September from ₹767 crore in March.
