The Fodome Amele community in Ghana’s Volta Region has filled a 13-year leadership gap by appointing Togbe Kwaku Osei III as its new Amankrado. According to MyJoyOnline, the new traditional ruler was formally introduced to residents on October 15, 2026. This presentation was conducted by Togbe Gbortor VI, the local chief, after the candidate completed the required customary rites. The vacancy had persisted since December 2013, following the passing of his father, Togbe Komla Osei II, who had held the position for over 65 years.
MyJoyOnline reported that the installation process began on October 8, 2026, with elders performing libation rituals to seek ancestral guidance. This was followed by a town-cleansing procession called “Gbɔ Kpɔkplɔ”, led by the local Asafo group. The new Amankrado then underwent a seven-day confinement period in line with local customs before his public debut. Senior leaders from neighbouring areas, including the Senior Divisional Chief of Fodome Hlorma and the Amankrado of Gbledi Chebi, attended the ceremony alongside community elders and residents.
During the event, both the new Amankrado and the local chief pledged to maintain the community’s cultural values. MyJoyOnline noted that Togbe Kwaku Osei III outlined his plan to collaborate with elders to protect local heritage and advance community interests. The appointment has sparked enthusiasm among the Toyi clan and the broader population, with residents expecting stronger communal bonds and improved local development under his leadership.
Before assuming the title, Togbe Kwaku Osei III was known as George Bosco Osei. He is the second son of the late former Amankrado. MyJoyOnline detailed his educational journey, noting he attended Gbledi Chebi R/C Primary School and Afadjato Secondary Technical School. He later completed a teacher training program in Amedzofe in 1994 and earned a degree in Guidance and Counselling. He currently works as a district manager for Federated Commodity PLC, a cocoa-buying firm. He is married to Agnes Osei, and the couple has four children.
