Family Homes Funds Limited (FHFL) and the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF) have started building a 257-unit residential complex in Masaka, Nasarawa State. Nairametrics reported that the groundbreaking ceremony officially launched this affordable housing project, which is specifically designed for law enforcement personnel and their dependents. The initiative targets the housing gap for low- and middle-income earners, prioritizing those who serve in public security roles.
The estate will feature two- and three-bedroom units, with the build phase scheduled to finish within nine months. According to Nairametrics, the project relies on a collaborative framework involving multiple entities. FHFL manages the construction process, while NPTF supplies the foundational infrastructure. Bricks International Concepts Limited develops the individual residences, and FAM Property Development and Investment Limited handles specific infrastructure tasks. This arrangement merges public support with private investment and technical skills to broaden housing delivery and generate local jobs.
Abdul-Mutallab Mukhtar, FHFL’s Managing Director, noted that the scheme provides secure living spaces for individuals who dedicate their careers to public service. He argued that officers face significant personal risks while protecting communities and thus require a stable home environment for their families. Alhaji Mohammed F. Sheidu, NPTF’s Executive Secretary, added that the fund aims to enhance the living standards of police staff. He emphasized that effective policing depends on a motivated workforce whose welfare is properly supported through accessible, affordable housing.
To facilitate ownership, FHFL will coordinate with primary mortgage lenders to offer eligible officers affordable financing terms. This allows officers to pay for their homes over an extended period, transitioning them to full ownership. The Masaka site represents the initial phase of a larger effort to provide housing for police across Nigeria. The partners are currently targeting Ogun and Kaduna states for the next batch of units, with intentions to reach other geopolitical zones later. Representatives from the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria and Imperial Homes Mortgage Bank attended the launch, alongside police leadership proxies.
