A newborn infant was discovered in a bush at Sombo, within the Wa Municipality of Ghana, by farmers returning from their fields. According to MyJoyOnline, the workers heard the child crying and investigated, finding the naked boy lying helpless in the vegetation. The find triggered a rapid response from local governance and medical staff.

Abubakari Seidu, the assembly member representing Sombo, rushed to the location after being alerted. He described the scene as shocking to residents, who struggled to comprehend how a woman could deliver a child and then leave it in the wild. Seidu reached out to the local health facility, prompting midwife Rafida to ride her motorbike to the site. She collected the crying boy and transported him to the clinic, where she washed him and settled him on her own bed.

Since the mother was absent, the team needed a feeding solution. Seidu noted they were advised to use NAN 1 formula. He supplied the funds and the product, allowing the nurse to nourish the infant. MyJoyOnline reported that Seidu expressed gratitude for the baby's survival.

Word of the event spread rapidly, drawing women to the clinic to inspect the child. One visitor in her late twenties expressed distress, observing that the infant seemed to have been left before the rain began. She recalled that the boy was wet and covered in flies, leading some to suspect maggots. Another middle-aged woman advised other mothers to reconsider abandoning their newborns, urging them to raise the children themselves.

Seidu speculated that the mother might not live in Sombo, calling the event rare for the area. He stated that community leaders and the Criminal Investigations Department were notified to locate the parent. Julita, an official from the Social Welfare Department, was also at the clinic. She remarked that while the living infant was a relief, other abandoned babies sometimes arrive already deceased. The welfare team will evaluate the situation, while the police continue their search for the mother.
