Cognizant and Google Cloud announced on Tuesday that they are deepening their collaboration to push forward the use of autonomous AI agents in business settings. The Hindu BusinessLine reported that the companies established a new Gemini Frontier Capability Group to facilitate this shift. This new entity combines Google’s advanced AI infrastructure with Cognizant’s sector-specific knowledge and technical skills. The primary goal is to help businesses move AI tools from experimental phases to stable, operational systems that deliver clear commercial results.

The new group relies on a dedicated pool of approximately 18,000 Cognizant professionals. According to The Hindu BusinessLine, this workforce represents a major joint commitment that extends the work begun in April 2026 when Cognizant started its specific Gemini practice. The unit will initially focus its engineering efforts on four main areas: updating old software systems, improving tools for programmers, automating standard business tasks, and strengthening cybersecurity defenses. To achieve these goals, the team will use a secure architectural framework based on the Model Context Protocol and protected by Google Cloud’s Model Armor security layer.

Ravi Kumar S, the head of Cognizant, explained that the new structure allows their top technical staff to concentrate on making advanced AI work reliably for clients. Thomas Kurian, the chief executive of Google Cloud, emphasized that large-scale AI deployment needs partners with strong integration skills. He stated that Cognizant’s training program for its large engineering team on the Gemini platform will assist shared clients in adopting self-running AI agents across their organizations.

The Hindu BusinessLine noted that Cognizant is also using Gemini within its own operations on a large scale. The company previously disclosed in July that it is rolling out the tool to 100,000 of its employees this year, with a target of reaching 200,000 later. Additionally, a recent workshop allowed more than 55,000 Cognizant staff to gain practical skills on the advanced AI platform, further expanding the company’s internal certification efforts.
