Nile Entertainment announced that the Nollywood faith-based film Agbara Nla has generated N354.5 million in cumulative ticket sales at the Nigerian box office since its theatrical release on October 1. According to a statement issued by the distributor, the film currently leads domestic ticket sales, outperforming other recent releases in the market.

The distributor noted that the film, which is a remake of a 33-year-old Christian classic originally produced by Mount Zion, also achieved significant commercial success internationally. Agbara Nla earned $120,660 during its opening weekend in select UK and Canadian cinemas. Nile Entertainment stated that the film set several milestones for Nollywood productions in the UK, including the largest opening weekend for a Nollywood film and the highest pre-sales figures for a faith-based title.

In the same statement, Nile Entertainment revealed that three of its distributed titles held the leading spots in the Nigerian weekend box office. Agbara Nla took the first position with N47.50 million, while Street Fighter and The Other Mummy followed with N36.43 million and N8.67 million respectively. These three titles combined for N92.61 million, representing 58.9 percent of the total weekend box office earnings, while the distributor’s entire slate accounted for 68 percent of the market share.

Nile Entertainment credited the strong performance of Agbara Nla to a marketing strategy that leveraged nostalgia for the original while appealing to new audiences. The approach involved outreach to the Mount Zion community, support from church leaders, and digital campaigns, which the company said generated over N71 million in advance ticket sales in a single day. Nowe Segun-Ojo, the general manager of Nile Entertainment, stated that the company’s approach reflects its distribution strategy since starting operations in August 2024, focusing on understanding the specific audiences for each film.

The distributor explained that while Agbara Nla benefited from long-standing cultural recognition, the other top-performing titles needed specific outreach to groups interested in their genres. Segun-Ojo described the top-three finish as a positive step for a firm that has been operating for a short time, emphasizing the firm’s continued focus on building progress with its production and studio partners.
