The All Progressives Congress in Oyo State has expressed strong confidence in its ability to win the 2027 general elections, a stance reinforced by the recent reconciliation of key party stakeholders. According to Punch, the party’s Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, stated that the leadership’s efforts to resolve internal disagreements have yielded positive results, particularly following the intervention of President Bola Tinubu. The party aims to secure at least one million votes for the president and ensure its candidates are returned elected in the upcoming polls.
A pivotal moment in this reconciliation occurred when former Senate Leader Teslim Folarin publicly endorsed Sharafadeen Alli, the APC’s governorship candidate, during a gathering in Ibadan. Punch reported that Folarin, who had previously alleged irregularities in the primary that produced Alli, raised the candidate’s hand to show support after returning from an overseas trip. Folarin acknowledged the grievances of other aspirants, noting that he had invested 26 years in pursuing the governorship, but urged members to close ranks for the party’s success. He also called for a review of the party’s reward system to ensure experienced politicians are not sidelined.
Meanwhile, the Action Alliance is navigating its own internal challenges regarding its governorship ticket. Punch reported that Olaniyi Ajekiigbe, the party’s aspirant, denied claims that he had withdrawn from the race or conceded the candidacy to Titilola Sodo. In a statement issued in Ibadan, Ajekiigbe’s camp argued that the ongoing legal dispute over the May 26, 2026, primary should be resolved by the courts before the party’s position is considered settled. The camp urged the Independent National Electoral Commission to act impartially and recognize the party’s national leadership, including Kenneth Udeze as National Chairman.
The Action Alliance’s statement cautioned party members against treating the matter as resolved while it remains before a competent court. The camp maintained that Ajekiigbe’s mandate, secured at the primary, had not been surrendered, and that peace would endure only when justice was allowed to take its course. Both parties are now focusing on mobilizing their supporters as the 2027 election cycle approaches, with the APC emphasizing unity and the Action Alliance relying on judicial clarity to define its candidate.
